‘AGT’ judge Simon Cowell nearly struck in head with axe in ‘very, very dangerous’ audition

For judges on “America’s Got Talent,” getting an up-close look at death-defying stunts is just another day at the office.

But Simon Cowell may have gotten more than he bargained for on Tuesday’s episode, which saw him brought on stage as two auditioning contestants hurled axes that whizzed inches away from his skull.

The duo, a pair of brothers, started off their “very, very dangerous” act by throwing knives at each other, which narrowly missed and landed in walls directly behind them.

Then they upped the ante.

After the brothers threw axes at each other while blindfolded, hurled knives at their assistant who stood on a spinning platform and threw axes at each other while one of them stood on the platform and the other hung upside-down by his feet, a “yes” from judges Cowell, Sofía VergaraHeidi Klum and Howie Mandel seemed inevitable.

“That was amazing,” Vergara said. “I was suffering. I hated it, actually. I hated it, because it was so good.”

Cowell was also impressed.

“What you do, I can only imagine how scary it is,” he said.

Well, he didn’t have to imagine much longer. The brothers invited the judge onto the stage to try out the stunt himself, which Cowell accepted.

“I guess it’s safer than being on a bike,” Mandel quipped, referencing Cowell’s two serious e-bike crashes which each left him with broken bones.

“Howie, shut up,” Cowell replied.

Cowell stood between the brothers, who threw axes that whizzed right by the judge’s head on opposite sides.

Cowell certainly looked relieved as he made his way back to the judges’ table unscathed. The duo earned the approval of all four judges, sending them through to the next round.

Of course, there were also plenty of standout singers.

Sara James, a 13-year-old from a small village in Poland, wowed the judges with her soaring cover of “lovely” by Billie Eilish.

“You have a real star glow about you,” said Cowell, who then hit the Golden Buzzer, sending James directly through to the live shows.

Successful singing auditions also came from 10-year-old Harper, who screamed out a heavy metal song, and the NFL Player’s Choir, composed of former pro-football players, who closed out the show with a rousing cover of Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me.”

Another memorable act came from comedian Hayden Kristal, who had the audience cracking up throughout her stand-up set while making jokes about her experiences being hard of hearing. She earned unanimous approval from the judges.

“Comedy is a language everyone understands,” she said. “Part of why I wanted to come to ‘America’s Got Talent’ is watching so many other comics with disabilities come here and succeed.”

Nikki and Bri Bella prank Simon Cowell

One act that didn’t prove successful came from a pair of dancers in large wigs and over-the-top make-up, who set out to perform a “creatively beautiful” and “extremely unique” routine to Britney Spears’ “Toxic.”

The dance was less than stellar. The duo earned four no’s from the judges — and became violent at their rejection, devolving into an epic fight between each other.

As the fight grew more and more intense, the duo ripped off their wigs, revealing they were none other than pro-wrestling sisters Nikki and Bri Bella, who arrived to prank Cowell by going undercover as contestants.

Nikki Bella previously hosted on the “AGT” spin-off “America’s Got Talent: Extreme.”
